What Axiom Does
Axiom is the worlds most experienced developer of time-saving
software for MicroStation , a computer-aided-design application
used by drafters, engineers and architects for just about
every type of technical drawing one can imagine. Axioms
software runs on top of MicroStation, effectively endowing
it with additional capabilities not available in MicroStation
alone. In some cases, these capabilities take the form of
adding new functionality to MicroStation. In others, Axiom
software allows the user to accomplish certain detailed MicroStation
tasks in batch, thousands of design files at a time, instead
of the slow way of handling one file at at time.
Imagine an engineer or design shop with a major
design file, representing thousands of man-hours, that one
day decides not to open. Imagine an error discovered in a
project consisting hundreds of files and this error has propagated
through all of them. Imagine a series of design files that
have to meet a detailed set of standards, which themselves
are sufficiently complicated and then imagine someone having
to check hundreds of files against these standards, one at
a time. Imagine having to constantly update a massive bill
of materials spreadsheet inside a design file to reflect daily
or even hourly changes.
These are examples of situations solved in minutes
by Axiom software.
Company History
Having graduated from the University of Connecticut with a
degree in Computer Science, Axiom CEO David Greenbaum founded
Axiom in late 1984.
The precursor to MicroStation was Intergraph
Corporations IGDS (Interactive Graphics Design System)
software, which ran on VAX (Virtual Address Extension) minicomputers.
Mr. Greenbaum, one of the first VAX programmers, was responsible
for developing all the in-house Intergraph software for Sohio ,
a huge oil company. Although the Intergraph software he wrote
was praised by fellow Sohio employees for its power and ease
of use, Mr. Greenbaum was nonetheless frustrated that so few
people were benefiting from his efforts. It was out of this
frustration that Axiom was conceived.
Axioms first major program for PC-based
MicroStation was FileFixer, the granddaddy of all MicroStation
third-party utilities, which was initially released in early
1988. Within months of its release, FileFixer became the best-selling
utility in the history of MicroStation, a role it has never
relinquished.
In 1995, Axiom released MicroStation Productivity
Toolkit, the best-selling suite of advanced MicroStation
utilities, which includes FileFixer and eighteen other popular
Axiom tools as component tools.
The MicroStation Community
and Axiom
The MicroStation community (and hence Axioms customer
base) includes hundreds of government agencies and Fortune
500 companies. This community includes 48 of the 50 state
departments of transportation. Also included are thousands
of smaller firms.
These organizations use MicroStation for such
disciplines as architecture, civil engineering, manufacturing
plant design, retail store layout, publishing, mechanical
engineering, mapping, roadway design and oil and gas exploration.
Axioms customers include such prestigious
organizations as the United States Army Corps of Engineers,
DuPont , Kennedy Space Center , Atomic Energy Commission of
Canada , Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Bechtel ,
Ford Motor Company , GTE , Lever Brothers , Lockheed , TRW ,
Pacific Gas & Electric , Carolina Power & Light , Chevron ,
Arizona Department of Transportation, Brown & Root , Bell
Atlantic , Nevada Department of Transportation, CH2M Hill ,
State of Maryland and many others.
In addition to the many types of customers,
Axiom products are currently used in 62 countries around the
world
