David Greenbaum, CEO

David Greenbaum

Owner, CEO

David was born in Newark, New Jersey; moved from Clifton to Edison at the age of three; graduated from J. P. Steven High; graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in Computer Science; and then returned to New Jersey from which he ultimately escaped one night, by plane, to California.

In 1978, while working for TRW Space and Defense System in Redondo Beach, he helped manage what was at the time the world’s largest computer program — part of a system to defend Minutemen missile silos from multiple warhead nuclear attack. On this project he developed a highly organized method of managing the flow and distribution of over one million IBM punch cards, the only form in which the software existed.

In 1979, while working for TRW, he helped develop the world’s first network operating system designed to facilitate communication between dissimilar computers. The development computer, an IMSAI 8080 microprocessor, could be booted only by throwing a series of toggle switches in precisely the right sequence.

In the early 1980s David worked in the Exploration Department of Sohio (now BP), the cash-rich oil company which at the time owned over half of the oil flowing through the Alaska Oil Pipeline. Despite David’s great affinity for Sohio’s unofficial motto at the time (“Why use lead when gold will do?”), David left Sohio in 1985 to form Axiom.

Ed Clark, President

Ed Clark

President

Born in the shadow of Bryant-Deny stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where a football coach named Bear Bryant had just begun his trek to greatness, Ed was reared in the philosophy of hard work, determination and the triple option.*

An engineer from the beginning, at the ripe old age of eight, Ed could often be heard telling his parents that he thought he should just skip high school and go straight to college so he could learn all about what makes things tick. Fortunately, his parents did not take his advice and Ed did attend high school. But as soon as he graduated from Castle High School in Newburgh, Indiana, Ed followed his engineering dreams. Despite having been accepted by the likes of such “little-known” engineering schools as Purdue University, Ed couldn’t resist returning to his birthplace to attend the school of the now-famous football coach from which so many of his values had been derived. [The fact that Ed came from a very long line of football players probably had nothing to do with it.]

In 1986, Ed received a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Alabama, along with a regular commission as an officer in the United States Air Force. But it was his minor, Computer Science, that would end up having the greater effect on his future career path.

Completing six years as a Navigator in the Air Force, a tenure that included over 100 hours of combat flight time in Desert Storm, Ed decided he wanted to learn the business world. After a few years in the financial arena, where he learned the ropes of sales and management, Ed felt ready to combine all of his training and experience and apply them toward the field he had come to love most — software. Thus he arrived at Axiom in 1998, where he serves as President today.

Ed is also working toward a Masters Degree in Accounting at the University of South Florida.

*Triple option — a football play that requires speed, teamwork, discipline, perception, the ability to account for multiple moving targets and the correct selection of one of three options during the execution of the play. Its success rate is directly proportional to the quarterback’s ability to make the right decision at the right moment.
