New Version of Walkinside! Walkinside
4.0!
CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, USA
The new version of Walkinside the premier
MicroStation 3D-visualization software is more
comprehensive than ever, with the added abilities of linking
external files or URLs to a Walkinside model and merging
several Walkinside models together into one model.
Also, the new Walkinside includes a scenario editor
and batch conversion program (processing multiple design files
at once). Walkinside's new enhancements focus on saving
the user more time while creating interactive 3D walkthroughs
of their 3D models.

Linking URLs
Added to Walkinside 4.0 is the ability to link objects
in a Walkinside file to external files or URLs. As an example,
this feature allows a user to link an overpass in the Walkinside
file to a project Web page going over project details. Any
type of external information - like PDFs, Word documents,
Excel spreadsheet - can now be linked to a Walkinside
file.
Merging files
The first step of using Walkinside is to convert your
3D models to the Walkinside file format. Even though
this is not a time-consuming process, with huge and complex
models, the process can take longer than it has to (depending
on the computer being used). To allow for a more efficient
workflow, Walkinside now allows users to merge different
Walkinside files into one composite Walkinside
file. This permits the user to do any merging after conversion
to the Walkinside format as opposed to having to merge
the CAD files (models) prior to a conversion. With this new
release, instead of rendering a whole set of four design files
as one large model, the user can output the master file and
each of its three references into individual Walkinside
files and then merge them. That way if a change arises, the
user would only have to modify and re-render the single changed
file, as opposed to the entire model. Doing so in this manner
saves time should changes to the design occur mid-project.
Emergency scenario
Inevitably, in the CAD world, designs must always take into
account the "worst possible scenario". For example,
roadways have to be designed in order to compensate for natural
disasters and serious accidents. Walkinside's new Scenario
Editor allows your designs to be tested in real-world emergency
scenarios. Implementing these scenarios is paramount for testing
the safety features of any design project.
The Scenario Editor can be set up to simulate, for example,
an explosion in a chemical plant. Once the explosion occurs,
users can be trained on the fastest escape routes from certain
points in the facility. Also, a scenario involving smoke can
be used to simulate limited visibility on a roadway were a
fire were to occur in the area. Roadway designers can use
the Scenario Editor to see if designs must be changed in order
to promote greater visibility.
Batch conversion
Frequent readers of MicroStation Today know that the
term "in batch" comes up frequently in various articles.
The definition of this term is "multiple files at once."
When a program is said to process files "in batch"
we mean that it can process multiple files (a whole batch)
at the same time. Walkinside's new Batch Converter
allows users to convert CAD files into the Walkinside format
in batch. Yet another time-saver!
About Walkinside
Walkinside is a software application that can turn
complex 3D MicroStation (V7 and V8) files, Plant Design System
(PDS) files and Plant Design Management System (PDMS) files
into interactive, virtual reality environments in a matter
of minutes, giving users the ability to walk through and experience
a design with all the forces of physics acting on them, before
the first construction dollar is spent.
The best way to get a feel for these new features is to try
out Walkinside for yourself.
