CAD Controversy: Do you really need CAD
standards?
CAD Standards have been developed to improve
productivity and interchange of CAD data between different
offices and CAD programs. In theory, everyone agrees that
CAD standards are a good thing to have, but why is it so hard
to get people to adhere to them?
In
a survey conducted by Axiom, out of 155 MicroStation users
surveyed, 43.2% felt that the biggest barrier to using CAD
standards is getting users to adhere to them. Also, in an
article published in EatYourCAD.com, the author clearly states
that the attitude towards standards at his shop is summarized
by the following statement, "Who gives a flying BLEEP
about standards?!" This sentiment seems to resound throughout
the MicroStation community. What do you think?
