CellRandomizer
Random MicroStation cell placement — automatically!

Request more information »

Ever notice that no two trees are exactly alike? There are many different kinds of trees. Some are taller than others. They all lean in a slightly different direction.

Why then, when a MicroStation user places tree cells into a design file, does every tree look exactly alike!? The answer is — that MicroStation user doesn’t have CellRandomizer.

What does CellRandomizer do?
CellRandomizer creates more natural looking MicroStation drawings by randomly varying the height, width and rotation of cells placed with it. You tell CellRandomizer the minimum and maximum height, width and rotation you want. CellRandomizer randomly places the cell (or cells) you want randomly choosing the height, width and rotation within the limits you define.

CellRandomizer allows you to randomly place cells in your design files!

Example
Here’s an example: Let’s say you want to create a natural looking wooded area or a tree-lined street. Just tell CellRandomizer you want to place cells OAK, PINE and MAPLE with a height of 10 to 25 feet and a vertical rotation between -7 degrees and +7 degrees. Click your mouse once to create each (varied) cell. Place as many trees as you like and you’re done! Each tree cell will have a slightly different orientation and size, just as trees do in real life. (Note that you can set the rotation limits for each axis — x, y and z — separately.)

What happens if you don’t have CellRandomizer
To accomplish the same natural look without CellRandomizer, you would have to:

  • Select the first cell you want.

  • Randomly determine a cell height.

  • Manually change the active y-scale to that height.

  • Randomly determine a cell width.

  • Manually change the active x-scale to that height.

  • Randomly determine a cell rotation.

  • Manually adjust the active angle to that rotation.

  • Place the cell.

  • Manually repeat steps 2 through 8 for each placement of that cell.

  • Manually repeat steps 1 through 8 for the placement of each of the other cells.

Yet with CellRandomizer, each randomly scaled and oriented cell can be placed with a single mouse-click
