The Problem
FileFixer tells you that the 174th element
in your design file is corrupt. You want to see
what element 174 looks like. How do you tell MicroStation
to display element 174?
The answer is you cant unless you
own Problem Element Viewer.
The Solution
Problem Element Viewer is a simple, yet powerful
MDL application that lets you instantly zoom in
on a MicroStation element knowing only its sequential
element number (also known as its EdG element number).

-
Problem Element Viewer
can be used with FileFixer to see (visually)
what a potentially corrupt MicroStation element
looks like.
-
Problem Element Viewer
can be used with SpecChecker to view
elements that violate your companys (or
a clients) MicroStation standards.
-
Problem Element Viewer
can be used with EdG to see what any element
in a design file looks like.
Using Problem Element
Viewer is simple
To start Problem Element Viewer just select
Axiom from the MicroStation menu and
then select Problem Element Viewer
. Enter the element number of an element you want
to see and Problem Element Viewer instantly
zooms in on that element.
Integration with FileFixer and SpecChecker
makes Problem Element Viewer even more useful.
Problem Element Viewer has other powerful
features as well. It can, for instance, read and
understand the report files generated by FileFixer
and SpecChecker. For example, lets
say FileFixer finds a design file with three potential
errors. It generates a report file called "fixer.rep"
which contains the list of elements.
Lets say you wanted to look at each of these
elements before letting FileFixer fix them automatically.
You would start Problem Element Viewer and
type fixer.rep. Problem Element Viewer would
instantly zoom in on element number 47 and display
the FileFixer error message associated with
element 47. To zoom in a little closer on element
47, just click the Zoom In button. To
zoom out a little further, just click the Zoom
Out button. Problem Element Viewer
will even remember the zoom ratio you prefer for
the rest of your current session and even for future
sessions.
To go to the next element in the design file, just
click the Next Design File Element button
and Problem Element Viewer will zoom in on
element 48. To go to the next element mentioned
in the report, just click the Next Report
File Element button and Problem Element
Viewer will zoom in on element 74.
If you want to go back to the previous element
mentioned in the report file, just click the Previous
Report File Element button and Problem
Element Viewer will once again zoom in on element
47.
