CellManager FAQ

Q- How do I setup CellManager to use IPLOT?

A- The very first thing to check before trying to get CellManager to work with IPLOT is to make sure that you can plot a design file from MicroStation with IPLOT. If IPLOT is not properly setup to plot design files, it will not work with CellManager output either, no matter how hard you try.

PRO_DD_IPLOT
CellManager expects IPLOT.MA to reside in the directory pointed to by the MicroStation Configuration Variable PRO_DD_IPLOT. Check your MicroStation Configuration Variables to see if PRO_DD_IPLOT exists and if it does, verify that IPLOT.MA is in that directory. If PRO_DD_IPLOT does not exist, you need to add that variable and insert the complete path to IPLOT.MA. Please see your MicroStation documentation or HELP for working with Workspace Configuration Variables if you are not familiar with locating or creating them.

CONFIGURE
Open CellManager and Click on <DRAW PAGES>, then choose CONFIGURE | SETTINGS

  1. Choose the PLOTTER radio button.

  2. Choose a plotter configuration file. For testing purposes, it is usually safe to choose the HPLJET4.PLT file. This is generic enough to work with almost any modern printer/plotter. If plotting doesn't work with the HPLJET4 plotter file, it probably won't work with the PLT file that matches your plotter/printer. Once you get output, you can change the PLT file to your liking.
  3. From the same option screen, choose the paper size of LETTER
  4. Choose the PLOTTING radio button
  5. For the Plotting System choose IPLOT
  6. In the IPLOT QUEUE field type in the name of the IPLOT QUEUE. The configuration of the queue controls the generation of the plot files. If the Queue name has spaces, like My Que, put quotes around the Queue name - "My Que"
  7. Close Configure Draw Pages.
  8. Click on CONFIGURE | EDIT SUBMIT.BAT
  9. REM the Copy %1 line
  10. Scroll down in the file (hit the down arrow) until you come to the …using IPLOT… section.
  11. UnREM the iplot generate %1 line
  12. UnRem the iplot submit %1 line

  13. Save your changes.
  14. Click on <DRAW PAGES> <CREATE PLOTS> and <SUBMIT PLOTS>. This should produce output on you plotter/printer.

If you don't have output on your printer/plotter at this point, please refer to the Troubleshooting section in the CellManager manual or call Axiom Technical Support at 727-442-7774 Extension 8615.

Q- When I’m trying to DRAW PAGES with CellManager, I get an information box saying “INFO: No SIZE parameter found in the current plotter Config file…” What did I do wrong?

A- You most likely need to change .PLT files. By default your .PLT file is probably set to PRINTER.PLT. This is great okay for MicroStation, but not so good for CellManager. CellManager requires your .PLT file to contain a SIZE parameter. Here’s how to change your .PLT file:

  • From the DRAW PAGES dialog box, choose Configure | Settings, this will open the CONFIGURE DRAW PAGES Dialog Box.
  • Click on PLOTTER
  • Click on SELECT
  • Choose another Plotter Configuration File — most LaserJet printers use HPLJET4.PLT without a problem. If you see your specific printer/plotter in the list choose that one.
  • Close the CONFIGURE DRAW PAGES DIALOG
  • Try DRAW PAGES again.

Q- How do I merge cell libraries with CellManager? (For V7 version of CellManager only)

A- Here's how to merge cell libraries with CellManager:

  1. Open CellManager and choose a cell library

  2. Click on <MANAGE>

  3. Choose the cells that you want to merge into another cell library. If you want all of the cells, click on <TAG ALL>
  4. Click on <EXPORT>
  5. Choose "MicroStation Cell Library" and select the Output Library — if you choose a library that doesn't exist a new one will be created. If you choose an existing library, you will be adding the cells in you current library to the Output Library.
  6. <COPY TO> copies the cells from the opened cell library into the Output Library.

  7. <MOVE TO> removes the cells from the opened library and moves them into the Output Library
  8. If there are cells with duplicate names, a separate dialog will open allowing you to handle that case.

Following these steps will give you consistent results.
