Installation FAQ

Q- At the end of the installation I get a message that says there may be a variable conflict with MS_DGNAPPS and/or MS_MDL being defined at the USER level. What does that mean? Is it safe to open MicroStation again?

A- Most of the time this waning message is just that — a warning. Optimally the Workspace Configuration Variables MS_DGNAPPS and MS_MDL that we use are defined at the APPLICATION level. We have no control over how the rest of your configuration files define these variables, so occasionally one of your configuration files can define these variables at the USER level. Most of the time this is not a problem. If you see this message, restart MicroStation and look for the Axiom Menu next to the MicroStation HELP menu. If it is there try running the Axiom products that you installed. If they work properly there is no problem. If the menu does not appear next to the MicroStation HELP menu, run MicroStation in DEBUG MODE and email the resulting MSDEBUG.TXT file to license@axiomint.com — see HOW DO I RUN MICROSTATION IN DEBUG MODE for directions.

Q- During the installation, I got an MDL ABORT. What do I do now?

A- If you are comfortable with the MicroStation Configuration Variables you can set a Variable that will help us see what went wrong. (If you are not comfortable with setting the MicroStation Configuration Variables please call us for help.) Here’s what to do: Create a MicroStation Workspace Configuration variable named INSTALL_TRACE and set the value to 1. A MicroStation text window will open during the installation with data that we can interpret. Copy the entire contents of the text window and email it to support@axiomint.com along with a message letting us know that you are experiencing an ABORT during installation. Don’t forget to delete the Variable that you created when you have finished.
