Office Importer FAQ
Q- How can I
update the links in all of my files without manually opening
up all of files?
A- This trick was sent to us
by one of our customers, Chad Mathes. Chad said that the way
that they update Microsoft Office Importer links in
multiple files is We run the stock MicroStation batch
plot utility (which is excellent) and tell it to look for
a plot shape which does NOT exist. Since the MicroStation
batch plot routine never finds the specified plot boundary,
it basically just opens, updates and closes the files quickly
without wasting any time to raster out the vector information
for plotting or wasting any paper. Its extremely efficient
and streamlines our work flow. Make sure that you have
the option UNLOAD MICROSOFT OFFICE IMPORTER WHEN AUTOMATIC
UPDATES ARE COMPLETE turned OFF when you try this.

Office Importer questions
Q- I thought
Microsoft Office Importer automatically updated the
spreadsheet links when I open my design files. I have to manually
update the links. Whats wrong?
A- Most likely you dont have
the MicroStation Configuration Variable MS_DGNAPPS set to
load Microsoft Office Importer when your design files
open. If you want Microsoft Office Importer to update
your pasted text from the source document automatically when
the design file opens, you need to modify your Axiom configuration
file, AXIOM.CFG. AXIOM.CFG is usually located in C:\Bentley\Program\MicroStation\Config\Appl.
If your MicroStation is not installed locally, or not installed
with the default settings, you may need to search your local
or network drives for AXIOM.CFG. Once you have located AXIOM.CFG,
open it with an ASCII text editor like Notepad. Enter a new
line in the file and add the line MS_DGNAPPS > $(AXI)office/office.ma.
Save AXIOM.CFG and restart MicroStation. Your pasted text
should now update when the design file opens.

Office Importer questions
Q- Why doesnt
Microsoft Office Importer load when my design file
opens?
A- There is a MicroStation
Configuration Variable that will load Microsoft Office
Importer when you open a design file. This is easy to
change and only takes a minute. Locate the file AXIOM.CFG
which by default is installed in the Bentley Application Level
Configuration File Folder. It is usually C:\Bentley\Program\MicroStation\Config\Appl
directory. Your installation may be different - you may have
to search your hard drive or possibly even network drives
for the AXIOM.CFG file. Open the AXIOM.CFG file with NotePad
or another ASCII editor. Add the line MS_DGNAPPS >
$(AXI)office/office.ma to the end of the file. When
you restart MicroStation, Microsoft Office Importer
will automatically load and update your linked data in your
design files.

Office Importer questions
Q- My spreadsheet
uses the Arial font, but I wanted my imported text to use
the Engineering font. I took the time to set the fonts in
the FONT FAMILY, but my imported text is all Arial. Is this
a Bug? (For V8 version only)
A- In MicroStation V8 Microsoft
Office Importer checks the Always use family
check box and if this is set to on, Microsoft Office Importer
will process the font in the imported text just as it does
in MicroStation V7. Otherwise Microsoft Office Importer
will build text elements with the font in the imported text.
