RefManager FAQ

Q- I need to change my reference file attachments. I have to change them from Configuration Variable Paths to the path name, and I have to save them with just the base filename. How do I do this?

A- RefManager assumes that the changes that you select should be applied to all reference file attachments unless you tell it which file to make the changes to. There's a button located over the <START> button named <Ref. Filter>. Click on this button and a FILTER BY dialog will open. Here you have a variety of options to choose which file(s) to process.

For example if you only want to process the reference file attachment named REF1.DGN, you could click on <FILE NAME>. Enter REF1.DGN into the String Field. For <TYPE> and <INSERT> choose WILDCARD. For <COMPARE> choose RAW FILE NAME and <MATCH> choose COMPONENTS. Close the FILTER BY FILE NAME dialog, Close the FILTER BY dialog and then hit <START>. Now, whatever changes you make with RefManager will only affect the file REF1.DGN. See the RefManager PDF manual for further options.

  6. The "From Config Variable to Path" option restores the full path to reference file names.

The "From Config Variable to Path" option restores the full path to reference file names.

  7. For example, ms_myref:abc.dgn would be changed to c:\project\abc.dgn. All directories within the variable will be searched until the right reference file path is found. If no path is found, the file name will not be changed.

All directories within the variable will be searched until the right reference file path is found.

  8. Selecting "From Path to Config Variable" will cause the dialog box to expand. You can create a search string by highlighting each configuration variable and then pressing <Add>. The program will search the list of selected variables, locate the correct one, and replace the existing directory path with the environmental variable. If the file is not found within one of the selected variable paths, no change will be made.
  9. You may want to check your MicroStation manual to see how reference file attachments can use Configuration Variables to define paths.
