Frustrated with DGN and DWG Conversions Where Your
Line Styles and Fonts Just Don’t Translate?

  • Avoid the mind-numbing, project-stalling hassle of messy conversions between MicroStation and AutoCAD.
  • Have your MicroStation and AutoCAD translations done right the first time, with no need to spend hours recreating your drawings.
  • Enjoy a simplified process of converting files between DGN and DWG (or vice versa) in batch on hundreds or thousands of files.
  • Impress your boss and clients with perfect translations that meet all required CAD standards.

DWG and DGN Conversion Headaches

Some of the more common types of problems with translated files include fonts that don’t map correctly, problems with element or object symbology (such as incorrect style, weight or color), incorrect units (DWG units or MicroStation working units), symbols (such as degree symbols) that come out wrong, lost levels (when translating from MicroStation), lost layers (when translating from AutoCAD) or levels or layers that are simply unwanted.

Converting files using MicroStation’s or AutoCAD’s built-in translator alone often results in messy output files requiring someone to spend hours fixing each one after the translation. In some cases, it’s faster to recreate CAD files from scratch, rather than trying to correct translated DGN or DWG files.

Converting Your CAD Files — Made Easy

Translation Manager, is a powerful tool for both MicroStation and AutoCAD users who do translations between DWG and DGN files. Translation Manager helps make CAD translating considerably easier and results in CAD conversions that come out right the first time, saving companies hundreds or even thousands of man-hours correcting translated files. Translation Manager handles complex translation problems that built-in translators cannot handle by themselves. Plus, it does all this on up to thousands of files at a time.

Save time doing conversions on similar projects or with similar standards by translating batches of MicroStation or AutoCAD files and organizing your conversion settings into easily reusable project files!

Use Translation Manager’s pre-processing tools to isolate important information needed for successful translations. Use its post-processing tools to make changes that Autodesk and Bentley’s basic translations do not accomplish. And, best of all, do it quickly and automatically.

How Translation Manager Does This for You

translated CAD files problems

Translation Manager starts off by writing everything involved in the translation process into a named “Project” file. Translation Manager continues by providing tools to evaluate the files you plan to translate and even modify the files if necessary to prepare them for translation. After that, it walks you through configuring the translation so you understand what each setting does and how it affects your results. When you’re done, simply save all these settings into your project file and click a single button to translate all the files in your project. An optional final step — which you can also save into your project file — repairs and cleans up the converted files and makes modifications that are sometimes necessary to meet a particular CAD standard in the new output format, whether DGN or DWG.

Translation Manager Software Requirements

1. Translation Manager requires at least one of the following base applications to be installed:

  • MicroStation V8 2004 Edition, MicroStation V8i SS4 or MicroStation V10 CONNECT Edition.
  • AECOsim Building Designer for V8
  • Power GEOPAK V8i
  • Power InRoads V8i
  • AutoCAD 2010 — AutoCAD 2017

All the listed base applications support both MicroStation DGN V8 and DGN V7 file formats. Note that MicroStation CONNECT (“V10”) uses the V8 DGN file format — it does not have its own, new version of the DGN file format. The version of the Bentley or Autodesk base application used will determine which version of AutoCAD DWG files can be translated.

2. You also need to have Microsoft Excel 2003 or later installed.

Satisfied CAD Conversion Customers

“I translate from MicroStation to AutoCAD for internal use within our company. I do the CAD conversion so that everyone can work with the files. Doing CAD translations manually took about 2 hours for each drawing. Using Axiom’s Translation Manager, it takes about 2 minutes or less — for the entire project. I converted 400 MicroStation to AutoCAD drawings for our last project. Without Translation Manager, it would have taken me about a month of full-time work. I can’t even say how much money this tool has saved my company. Your Tech Support was responsive and helped right away, but truly, I didn’t even need that much help, it was very user-friendly to set up.”

“We used Translation Manager to translate all of our legacy files. They are all done now. We did a large amount of translations, about thirty thousand files. We did character mapping and a variety of other things with them. We had a lot of files that had CIT raster files attached to the MicroStation DGNs that we translated to TIFF files attached to AutoCAD DWGs. With Translation Manager we were able to fine tune the settings so the raster images in the translated files would display properly (rather than squished to the side). We were able to fine-tune and define a number of the settings to get it just how we wanted it. We were able to do big batches at a time. This project wouldn’t have gotten done without this tool. We are very happy with Axiom’s tech support and the products you produce.”
