Now that MicroStation V8/XM has gotten into widespread use at MicroStation shops around the globe, users are reporting a diverse new set of V8/XM-specific corruptions not previously seen with MicroStation/J.

FileFixer for V8/XM fixes corrupt MicroStation files totally automatically! Repairing a MicroStation file with FileFixer requires nothing more than typing in (or double-clicking on) the name of the damaged file.

Since 1987, FileFixer has been recognized the world over as the easiest, fastest and most reliable solution to handling any kind of MicroStation design file corruption. Using FileFixer ensures that your design files end up with the results you expect when you translate them, migrate them to V8/XM or plot them. No other automatic preventive or curative solution exists for MicroStation.

Do you ever experience…

  • A MicroStation V8/XM report “Unable to open design file”?

  • Elements on "phantom" (undefined) levels?

  • Elements you can't select or delete?

  • Elements that behave oddly when you zoom in on them?

  • MicroStation V8/XM elements that don’t plot the way you expect them to?

  • Add-in MDL applications that just don’t seem to work right?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then MicroStation file corruption is costing your company money. Every instance of every one of the symptoms listed above costs your organization money. Putting an objective dollar value on those costs shows that nearly all MicroStation sites, even fairly small ones, are losing tens of thousands of dollars a year due to hidden design file corruption.

Did you know…

  • That some kinds of design file corruption can remain hidden for years?

  • That hidden corruptions can make a design file prone to future corruptions?

  • That the design file you restore from tape might contain hidden problems
that cause it to get corrupted again and again.

With FileFixer for V8/XM any MicroStation user can repair damaged V8/XM design files without waiting and without wasting anyone else’s time.

How much is MicroStation file corruption costing you?
Consider a design file that took 200 man-hours to create. If that design file and its backups have a hidden corruption that made it unusable, how much money would that cost your organization? To find out, just fill in the fields below on our CORRUPTION CALCULATOR!

Number of design files per month that need to be fixed

Average time (in hours) spent fixing a design file

Hourly rate for operators that fix design files

Number of operators hired to fix design files

Yearly amount of money wasted due to file corruption:

File corruption may be costing you tens of thousands of dollars per year. But it’s not just money you’re losing.

The new V8/XM file format

Each MicroStation V8/XM file consists of multiple internal directories and sub-files. This data organization scheme, also used by Microsoft Word and Excel, is called "structured storage". Structured storage errors are one of the most serious, recurring V8/XM-specific corruption problems occurring in production. This is a new phenomenon with MicroStation V8/XM files; hence, drafters and designers using V8/XM in production might have encountered structured storage errors without realizing it.

Structured storage damage manifests itself in different ways. The most obvious symptom is MicroStation V8/XM's inability to open a file. If you've ever encountered an "Unable to open design file" message, corruption in the structured storage system is one likely culprit. FileFixer for V8/XM automatically detects and repairs structured storage damage.

MicroStation file corruption:

  • Frustrates you and your users.

  • Throws your schedule off in ways that are impossible to predict.

  • Makes you and your users redo work that you've already completed.

  • Prevents you from getting more important work done.

  • Forces you to stay late at the office in order to get your work done.

FileFixer for V8/XM can:

  • Bring undisplayable MicroStation files back to life.

  • Solve plotting problems caused by subtle design file corruptions.

  • Correct a model that cannot be opened or selected.

  • Make unselectable elements selectable again.

  • Eliminate corruptions that cause file translation errors.

  • Ensure that elements display correctly no matter how closely you zoom in on them.

Gain total control of the file repair process

FileFixer for V8/XM’s intelligently selected defaults fix most MicroStation files without user intervention. Nonetheless, when you need greater control of the file repair process,
FileFixer for V8/XM gives you a way to control virtually every aspect of the process.

Free the talented people in your organization to do more important things. Use FileFixer for V8/XM to fix corrupt MicroStation V8/XM files.

Thoroughness
FileFixer repairs corruptions that EdG won't touch. For example, if a corruption leaves recoverable elements in a design file on an odd-byte boundary, EdG will never recover those elements because it doesn't even look for elements on odd-byte boundaries. FileFixer repairs such design files totally automatically. Without FileFixer, such design files would remain unrecoverable forever.

Examples of other things FileFixer can do that EdG can’t

  • Replace design file header elements when EdG can’t. For example, let’s say the first few blocks of your design file are destroyed. This is common. FileFixer can automatically give your design file new type 9, 8 and 10 elements and connect these elements to the recoverable elements in your file. EdG can’t.

  • Correct text element range, a vital type of repair. FileFixer can. EdG can’t.

  • Detect corruption before it happens. FileFixer can easily be set up to regularly scan all your design files looking for minor corruptions that could become serious. You have complete control over which types of errors are automatically reported and which aren’t. EdG can’t do this.

Free the talented people in your organization to do more important things. Let FileFixer fix your MicroStation files automatically!

Anyone in your organization with the advanced skills needed to run EdG expertly could be doing much more valuable things for your organization like writing macros, MDL programs and Basic scripts to speed up production in your entire shop.

Migration-to-V8/XM problems
A huge issue that faces almost every MicroStation shop is the migration of MicroStation version 7 and earlier design files to the new MicroStation V8/XM format. This migration is in fact a translation of one file format to a completely new format and suffers from the exact same liabilities, mentioned above, that any translator experiences when translating corrupt data. Simply running FileFixer on your V7 files prior to migration to V8/XM will save you a lot of confusion and aggravation.

How much is FileFixer worth?
The average company pays $50,000 to $75,000 per year to keep a typical MicroStation expert on the payroll. Yet FileFixer can do the same job better for a tiny fraction of that price!

Success Stories

"Good news!! That last bit did the trick. We are up and running fixing files. Actually, I hope that we don't have to use FileFixer ever again, but that is highly unlikely. It is nice to know that we have it. Thanks so much for getting us going again."
Bjorn Norman
Triathlon Inc.

"We mainly use the FileFixer product, and we use it to fix corrupt files and to make sure files are clean when we send them out of the office. I can not measure the financial savings of the product has given us, but I can say that it has saved us time when fixing corrupt files, this can be much quicker than retrieving from our archives."
Jackie Harris
Ove Arup and Partners

"… [FileFixer] works great on fixing bad MicroStation files. If the file is fixed using FileFixer, it saves the user time and money in having to redraw the information again."
L. Sitter
USACOE

"… FileFixer works like a champ. He was surprised at how many of his drawings have over 400-500 errors and FileFixer fixes them all. He is very impressed with
the program."

B. Jenkins
Wolmack Army Medical Center

"I always considered FileFixer one of those magical products. You just hit a button and whatever is wrong goes away."
Ray Danley
Washington Infrastructure Services

"I love FileFixer! It comes in very handy. It fixes file automatically 90% of the time. We could "get by" without FileFixer, but we'd have to apologize a whole lot!"
Ronald McDonald
Alabama DOT Montgomery, AL

"I like the tools in MicroStation Productivity Toolkit, particularly FileFixer. I use it a lot. FileFixer has saved me many hours of lost work. With FileFixer, I don't have to go into the archive or rebuild an entire drawing from scratch. FileFixer alone makes MicroStation Productivity Toolkit worth it! "
R. Saldivar
Pacific Gas & Electric

"I been using FileFixer for approx. 7 years and have been very happy with the results. It's nice when you have one of those seriously corrupted files that you just can't fix and their is a deadline right around the corner. Because under their support agreement you can send the corrupted file to their tech support and they will attempt to repair the file for you. It's also a good tool for the common CAD user to use to repair files instead of trying to teach them EDG. EDG in the hands of an inexperienced user can have serious ramifications."
M. Wood,
Eisenmann

"FileFixer resolved many problems caused by a third party GIS system. It was amazing how ugly a file could get before it finally wouldn't load or crash. The other amazing thing about FileFixer is when a file dies, and the user goes to get the backup (what backup) Filefixer can correct the problem with the existing file, and the user is on their way again."
M. Horsfall
Workplace Wisdom

"FileFixer saves so much time and frees me from having to use EdG! It is so easy to use. I like that I can run a single file or all of them. I can't wait to have it for V8/XM."
Pam Schmitz
HNTB Minneapolis, MN

"Axiom products are a valuable asset for any MicroStation user. FileFixer is a 'must have' to keep files in tiptop shape."
C.N.,
BlaseManufacturing

"What does FileFixer mean to me? It means being efficient. It means doing things faster. It increases the quality and profit. At times I get files that run very slowly. I run FileFixer on them, and they load a lot faster! Other times, my CAD operators do basic operations on design files that are up to a year and a half old and get elements that disappear and graphic group errors on the new files. So, again, I use FileFixer. I find it very useful to run it in 'Search for Problems' mode at night, and, in the morning, see which design files have serious errors in them. I can't live without my FileFixer!"
J.D., CAD Manager
Parsons Brinckerhoff

"We have two copies of Axiom's FileFixer and it has allowed us to correct about 480,000 design files without an operator. We did not have to train employees on design file cleanup i.e. EdG. Our productivity went from 12 files per hour to 1,000 files per hour."
A.H., Technical Analyst
Byers Engineering Company

"As I'm the one responsible for the successful operation of all the CAD here, I am the one who gets all the calls when there is any trouble. So, I read in a magazine about Axiom's MicroStation Productivity Toolkit and specifically about FileFixer. I got in contact with Axiom and found out it repaired end-of-file missing errors automatically. Using it has saved me countless MicroStation files from certain death. Whenever we now get design file from a consultant on MicroStation or whenever we translate a design file from AutoCAD to MicroStation, we always run it through FileFixer as it always ensures we get a quality product. Even though we now have the current version of MicroStation, which works well with our network, I still make heavy use of FileFixer. I've never had a file that FileFixer wasn't able to fix. On top of that, FileFixer is much easier to use than EdG. I remember when I first looked over the EdG manual it seemed so complex! FileFixer has been a real godsend. I honestly don't know what I would have done without it."
M.S., CAD System Engineer
CUH2A

"I've benefited from FileFixer quite a lot. With FileFixer, I fix corrupted design files in five minutes. I wouldn't try it with EdG; I'd be afraid it would mess them up even more! We've had FileFixer since it's DOS version, and I've never had a file I couldn't fix it with. It works great for us!"
D.H.
Stone and Webster Engineeringg

"I've been using FileFixer for over five years now and have been very satisfied with the product. It definitely saves our company lots of time and money."
Edgar Gamiao
RM Towill Corp

"Files that end up corrupt need to be fixed now. We can do that with FileFixer."
David Silveir
CH2M Hill

"When dealing with corrupt files, FileFixer saves time which means money and aggravation."
Andrew Guard, Director CAE
Stone & Webster

"If we hadn't fixed the file with FileFixer, we would've had to rebuild the file from scratch. It could've easily taken a year to rebuild it, but none of this was necessary thanks to FileFixer."
Thomas Tapley
Mon-Cre Telephone

"I use FileFixer a lot. Not because so many files are corrupt, but as a future preventative. When I've used it to fix a problem in a file, it works effortlessly. I've definitely saved several files that just had no hope, except to get a backup from tape."
Arleen Garrison
Metropolitan Transportation Authority

"I use FileFixer nightly, despite being an EdG expert."
J.D.
Parsons Brinckerhoff
