RefManager
Solve any MicroStation reference file problem fast!

more information »
RefManager has two main purposes:
-
RefManager empowers
you to control your reference files in ways
they cant be controlled using any software
that comes with MicroStation.
-
RefManager is the
fastest way on earth to manipulate, debug, organize
and control your MicroStation reference file
attachments. A single RefManager command,
for example, can produce a report describing
every single reference file attachment on your
system in any level you want. Or you could modify
hundreds of reference file attachments in dozens
of directories all over your system with laser-precise
control.

Benefits
-
Produce detailed (or not
so detailed) reference file reports RefManager
produces customizable reports of your reference
file attachments. Just tell RefManager
which design files you want to scan for reference
file attachments. For example you might say,
*.dgn-s to scan all the design files
on a single disk drive. (The -s
tells RefManager to search subdirectories.)
Each report can have as much or as little detail
as you want just a list of reference
file names or everything there is to know about
every conceivable reference file setting.
-
Attach reference files
to dozens of design files RefManager
lets you attach a reference file to dozens of
design files with a single command.
-
Adjust reference file level
symbology RefManager can adjust
reference file level symbology on hundreds of
design files with a single command.
-
Shift reference files left,
right, up and down.
-
Rename reference file attachment
filenames RefManager gives you
extraordinary power to adjust reference file
names. Perform string substitution on the entire
reference filename or on just the disk, directory
or extension part of the name. RefManager
supports regular expression substitution too.
-
Detach reference files
One command can detach reference files
all over your system.
Locate missing reference files When a
reference file is moved, renamed or deleted,
youll find out about it (and be able to
fix it) before your operators do.
-
Quickly determine whether
a file is used anywhere on your system as a
reference file.
Scenario #2: Rename your
reference files? Not so fast!
Lets say you need to rename your reference
files (all 94 of them) from PRJ01.DGN, PRJ02.DGN,
PRJ03.DGN, etc., to Project01.dgn, Project02.dgn,
Project03.dgn, etc.
Changing the names of the actual files is the easy
part. You could do that with the RENAME command.
But what about all the reference file attachments
all over your system that point to the old filenames!?

| RefManager's "Modify Reference File Attchment Name" dialog box |
Without RefManager, you have a very serious
problem. Yet a single RefManager command
could solve this entire problem for you in seconds!
Just tell RefManager to scan every single
reference file attachment on your entire system
looking for reference file names that start with
PRJ. Then tell RefManager to change
the string PRJ to Project
in every reference file attachment that matches.
RefManager lets you manipulate the device
name, directory name, the filename, and the extension
of each file independently of each other! RefManager
lets you manipulate the filenames stored in reference
file attachments regardless of what operating system
they are for Windows NT, 98 and 2000.
Each filename component can be replaced completely.
For example, you could easily make all your reference
files have an extension of .ref instead of .dgn.
Or you could tell RefManager to perform
string substitution only on the directory portion
of your reference file attachment filenames. Or
only on the filename portion!
The space available here is too limited to describe
all of RefManagers reference filename
manipulation features. Let it suffice to say, they
are powerful!
Scenario #3: Attach a
new reference file to a hundred design files
Attaching a new reference file to all the design
files in a large project could take days. You might
have to specify the reference file name, the logical
name, the description, the named view, the clipping
boundary and the clipping voids over and over again
over a several-day period. But with RefManager
you simply attach the reference file exactly the
way you want it once. Then use RefManager
to copy that attachment to all the other design
files to which you want that reference file attached.
RefManager can accomplish all this with
a single command that takes about 45 seconds to
set up and a few minutes to execute!
This is another example of how RefManager
can pay for itself the first day you own it.
Scenario #4: Detect missing
design files (before they mess up your operators.)
Its not uncommon for an operator to accidentally
rename, move or delete a design file which is being
used somewhere as a reference file. RefManager
can scan every design file on your system and produce
a report of every design file that is not where
it is supposed to be. This lets you correct the
problem before your operators waste a lot of time
trying to figure out what happened.
These are just a few of the possible uses of RefManager
advanced MicroStation reference file management
software.
