Quality Assurance made
easy
Are design file inconsistencies costing you time and money when doing quality assurance checks? Would you like your users to consistently adhere to design file standards? Would reducing quality assurance time allow you to complete MicroStation projects faster? Are you interested in an easy solution that would ensure standards adherence every time an element is placed? The solution is SpecMonitor.

Consistency between design files the purpose of SpecMonitor
SpecMonitors mission is to ensure
design file consistency by requiring that MicroStation
users adhere to standards throughout the entire
life of a project from the creation of the
first design file to the last element placed.
Whats more, SpecMonitor can now automatically
generate rules files from design files that already
meet your companys standards (yes, it can
do this!), saving you hours of tedious, time-consuming
work.
With SpecMonitor, you wont ever have
to go back into design files to do quality assurance
checks on them. SpecMonitor automatically
does your quality assurance work every time an element
is placed!
How does it work?
SpecMonitor works in the background and notifies
users every time they place an element
that violates
a previously established rule. SpecMonitor
gives users the options to change
the element to
conform to the established rule or reject the non-complying
element.

| SpecMonitor eradicates
inconsistencies from a projects design
files by requiring that MicroStation users adhere
to standards throughout the entire life of a
project. |
Lets say a client wants all elements on level
1 to be red ellipses. On a large project with many
files, accomplishing this without SpecMonitor
would be difficult. But with SpecMonitor,
just a few steps would do it for all the users on
the project. Simply:
- Start SpecMonitor
- Build a rules file (or automatically generate a rules file if one of your design files lends itself to the above standard) that rejects all elements on level 1 that are not ellipses. The comment All elements on level 1 must be red ellipses could be set up to display when an operator attempts to place a different element on level 1.
- Build a second rule rejecting all ellipses on level 1 that are not red. The comment Wrong color! Click the <Change> button to change color to red could be included in this rule. Save this rules file.
- Every time a user attempts to place an element other than an ellipse on level 1 on the design file that has the above rules file attached to it, the message All elements on this level must be red ellipses will appear. The user then has the option to either reject the element or ignore the violation and place it as is.
If a user attempts to place an ellipse with any
color other than red on level 1, the message Wrong
color! Click the Change button to change color to
red will appear. This time, the user has the
option to reject, change or ignore the element.
Benefits
SpecMonitors main benefit is its ability
to enforce design file standards during the entire
life of a project. Consistency and uniformity of
design files can easily be achieved using it.
SpecMonitor can save MicroStation users
an incredible amount of time and money because designers
dont have to go back into design files to
check them, as SpecMonitor automatically
does this as the design is created.
By enforcing correct standards, SpecMonitor
helps organize design files and facilitates project
management.
